The all-time best, wickedest, wildest whatever

Last night I sat down to watch nothing on the 300+ channels Comcast provides and was surprised, no not really surprised but more or less resolved to see The Weather Channel has become a lemming.

Every channel nowadays has THE 50 GREATEST or THE ALL-TIME BEST, WICKEDEST, WILDEST WHATEVER. VH1 is a classic example. On any given day of the week they are host to any of the following: 50 Greatest Teen Idols, 50 Greatest Moments in Hip-Hop, or my personal favorite 50 Greatest Women of the Video Era. It is getting a bit ridiculous in my opinion I mean do we really have enough time to sit and watch five hours of anything to learn Whitney Houston is #3 of all Video Mavens? Plus, who comes up with these lists?

Well now The Weather Channel has gone and put together their own list of THE 100 BIGGEST WEATHER MOMENTS hosted by Harry Connick Jr. The Harry Connick Jr. part is definitely the best part of the whole concept, but really was this necessary? I can just imagine the meteorologists scurrying around trying to rank whether (no pun intended) Punxsutawney Phil should be at #89 or #88.

The list is rather confusing upon first glance and then continues to confound when you try to figure out why in the world would The Cotton Bowl (#69) or Hollywood Becomes the Film Capitol (#61) make the list. Huh?

Did I mention The Weather Channel itself made the list of the 100 Lamest Weather Moments? They were #25.

There is no shame.

Oh, thank you. You just confirmed my decision to cancel cable. We have been without it for almost 72 hours now, and haven't really noticed its absence. I'm convinced the Monkey has gained IQ points..

i sometimes pause at the Weather Channel and wonder what it's all about.

no need to think on that one any further, i guess.

now if i could just pry my eyes off bravo and the food network.

having a crush on bobby flay is just plain silly.

I am also a Bravo junkie. I love it - too much sometimes. Can't wait for Top Chef to come back. I too have a thing for Tom Colicchio. I remember you had a post about him awhile back. I will need to start watching Bobby Flay, if you like him chances are I will too. :-)

Gainfully employed

I heard back last night from Cargill , I start back into the world of the gainfully employed as an independent contractor on October 8 th . My old client, who will now be my new client, Jeff wrote: I'm thrilled we get to work together again. This is the most important project our business unit has taken on in a lot of years so I feel a lot better knowing you're going to be part of it. OK now I'm nervous. Eeek - the most important project? Whoa, better bring the A game, but you know I am excited - scared - but am ready to go. I have so much to do before the 8 th , gotta get the list together to make the most of my kid free week (now that litte man is at daycare in the a.m.). Let's see: 1) Paint basement. 2) Purge house of clutter - how can we accumulate this much crap? 3) Goodwill and library drop off - Maple Grove Library is taking donations until Oct. 6 th !!! 4) Get the yard ready for winter - should I plant more bulbs? 5) Put basement back together - IKEA run ma...

Six weeks

I am sidelined for at least six weeks. No tennis - no good. My bad wheel turned into immobile wheel today thanks to an air cast. Not the most attractive accessory. I had been trying to continue playing with the plantar fasciitis guess I figured it was going to be around for awhile so might as well deal with it. This plan actually worked out for the best because when I was playing on Thursday there was this loud pop in the bottom of my foot. Suddenly my heel felt better, so I thought, "Maybe it released all of the bad heel juju into the rest of my foot." Well, it was something like that. Evidently I tore a ligament in my foot which the doctor told me is really the best thing that could have happened. The reason why is it cured the plantar fasciitis. Plus the recovery time for the ligament thing is about six weeks versus potentially months or years with the other. So all in all I guess it was a good thing to tear a ligament. I am bummed because I can't do any exercise for t...

Z is like for Zodiac

Shelly and I went to the movie Zodiac last night. The theater was nearly packed with mostly men and couples, so it was a bit obvious when two teenage girls talking on cell phones walked into the movie 20 minutes late. Shelly turned to me, "Why would you even come to a movie like this if you are 20 minutes late?" I agreed especially since they had already missed the first victims meeting their demise and the opening which told the viewer this was a true story. You just had to know they were going to be lost the rest of the movie, plus the only reason they were probably there was to see Jake Gyllenhaal . The movie was very good, one of the best I have seen since The Departed , I read the book and the prime suspect was much creepier on the screen than I imagined in real life. At the end of the movie, Shelly stopped by the ladies room and I waited outside. The two teenage girls we saw walk in late also went to the ladies room with cell phones glued to their ears already. At our...
