Memories...misty bad short wearing memories of the way we were...

One of my good friends from childhood put a picture out on Facebook that I have not seen for 25 years (gosh, it seems so strange to say 25 years). It is of our 6th grade school basketball team and what a motley crew we were. I was 12 when this photo was taken.

It is actually quite embarrassing.

We were the Paintbrush Pirates and had to wear these God awful uniforms with white, yes white shorts that would pretty much be classified as a swimsuit nowadays.

I do remember the day the photo was taken, I even curled my hair for the occasion. I just received a curling iron and was still trying to figure out how it worked as you can see from the photo. Always had a hard time in the early years trying to make sure I didn't turn it the wrong way and end up with a crease.

Did anyone else feel my curling iron pain?

Well here we are...if you can't guess I am #50. As I can see now, my mom was right, I did need the reminders to "stand up straight!" Look at my posture, I was really struggling with being the "tall girl".

Through the lovely invention of the Internet (thanks to Al Gore - hee hee) I have been reconnected with: #13 (lives in San Diego); #11 (lives in Washington DC and is an archaeologist); #25 (lives in WY, is a teacher - has a daughter in college - YIKES); #12 (lives in San Diego and Italy - and is the source of this photo); #33 (lives in WY - her little sister was my sister Amy's bestest friend); #32 (lives in WY and is a county attorney).

Don't worry, you are not alone. I will NEVER post a pic of me in 6th grade, or any grade in the '80's for that matter

oh Lord. i remember some very similar shorts in my past. please somebody, tell the people in charge that NO 6th grade girl should be forced to wear something that makes her look even more awkward than she actually is!!

ps. facebook is kind of fun... :)

Oh susan...I so relate to your curling iron agony! I was right there with ya! My hair seemed to flip where it wasn't supposed to and just looked so awkward all the time. I don't think I still have the knack for using one of those things! Thanks for bringing back that memory...funny how we outgrow those "little" things that at the time we think are so huge!

Six weeks

I am sidelined for at least six weeks. No tennis - no good. My bad wheel turned into immobile wheel today thanks to an air cast. Not the most attractive accessory. I had been trying to continue playing with the plantar fasciitis guess I figured it was going to be around for awhile so might as well deal with it. This plan actually worked out for the best because when I was playing on Thursday there was this loud pop in the bottom of my foot. Suddenly my heel felt better, so I thought, "Maybe it released all of the bad heel juju into the rest of my foot." Well, it was something like that. Evidently I tore a ligament in my foot which the doctor told me is really the best thing that could have happened. The reason why is it cured the plantar fasciitis. Plus the recovery time for the ligament thing is about six weeks versus potentially months or years with the other. So all in all I guess it was a good thing to tear a ligament. I am bummed because I can't do any exercise for t...

Have you met my friend Jane?

I am a complete Jane Austen junkie, in fact I think that I need to maybe seek help. Shelly tells me I need help and we all know Shel tells it like it is, so it must be true. "Hello, my name is Susan and I love Jane. Jane Austen." I read "Pride and Prejudice", annually. Yes, every year I spend a weekend with Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Now that I think about it I may need to skip my little tradition this year because I have so many other never read books piled up and there is a due date looming from the library. The reason I share this closeted truth with you my friends is because there is a TV event starting this weekend on PBS. It is basically the 10 weeks of Jane, every Sunday night PBS will air a adaptation of Jane Austen's novels. Here is the schedule. So, if you have never had the opportunity to get to know Jane, maybe it is time. Think about it, there is no new TV, it's cold out and you can learn new some new sayings for Monday. Nothing ...
