I thought we were going to the apple orchard

This morning I woke up ready for a beautiful, fall day in Minnesota. I was also ready to take a trip with JG's pre-school class to the apple orchard. I had been looking forward to this because I had big plans for making apple crisp tonight from the apples that I picked up on our visit. I could already taste and smell the finished product.

We all loaded onto the bus at 9:00 a.m., there were 47 4 and 5 year olds all packed in and ready to roll. The bus left the school parking lot and took a left rather than the expected right.

I turned to the mother seated by me and asked, "What apple orchard are we going to in this direction?"

She looked at me puzzled and said, "We're not going to an apple orchard."

"Where are we going then?" I asked.

"The farm." she replied to which JG yelled, "But, mom you said we were going to the apple orchard, I don't want to go to the farm."

Guess I need to pay more attention to the little flyers that come home. My apple crisp dreams were dashed.

Needless to say, we had fun at the farm. JG got to pet a cow, pig and sheep. I thanked God that I do not have to get water out of a pump or shuck corn.

Here is little man and the pigs.

47 kids in one bus?!?!? You are a brave woman! Okay, so no apple crisp but you got a great picture of the pig. Can't wait to read more of your blogs. You are now officially a blogger!

Carey - Thanks for the laugh. We just have tooooo much information in our heads to actually process every teeny tiny bit. Hopefully we won't have to spend too much in therapy for the kids later in life.

Hiatus no more

I don't know what it is about January, but 'round about January 15th I go into a complete and utter funk - hence no blogging. It is as if I need to cocoon for a bit, metamorphosize, and re-enter the world in February. This year has been especially bad due to our chaotic schedules with the kids, plus I have been working almost 60 hours per week as it is budget time and we are determining what exactly does "hunkering down" look like. Don't worry, work is still fun, challenging might be a better word. I truly love my new job, actually it was a promotion - didn't officially know until this week, so that jump starts the old engine as well. Other than that I have also realized in the last week my body is really, really mad at me. Things are just not working as they should and finally made the decision to go see the doctor who helped with the torn ligament a few years ago. Bottom line, just haven't been taking care of myself and he cracked me around a bit so can ...

I am usually an open book...

however have made the decision to have The Schmidt House be invite only, you are the ones that I want to share our lives with - if there is someone that I have omitted by mistake, please let me know. Think that there are some family members that I do not have email addresses for, so will need to track those down. I have found that I have been a little blog "stuck" for the last few months knowing that there were a lot of people who read my site and I became a little self conscious about what I was writing as to not offend anyone - not like I go out of my way to offend, but after awhile you realize that there are some pretty sensitive folks out there. I know it takes all kinds for the world to go around, however I don't want to have to worry about it when I am here. So now I feel a little more free to speak my mind which you all know has never been a problem, but now I feel I am among friends. Thanks for sharing this little adventure with the Schmidts...

So today was one of those days when I was waiting for Dwight Schrute to walk in at any time and make popcorn

Yesterday was pretty blah at work considering everyone just got back from the holiday, there were the usual conversations, "So how was your Christmas?" blah, blah, blah. If yesterday was blah, then today was just odd. At one point I felt that I had entered an alternate universe and we had become Dunder Mifflin . You see, Thursday is popcorn day on the Garden Level. I guess the popcorn is there to help boost morale and raise a little ching for various charities. However, since today really felt like Tuesday, not Thursday, people just weren't in the mood for popcorn and the world went a little askew. It all started when someone complained that the popcorn smell was bothering them. I don't know why this day was different than any other Thursday, but today it bothered them. Maybe they were on the holiday hangover edge and it just tipped. So management was on the prowl for a new home for the popcorn machine. That is when I was approached and asked if it would be ok if t...
