Doris is my hero

As many of you know, I have become obsessed with tennis this past year after a sixteen year hiatus. Playing a minimum of four times a week may indicate obsession.

I'm not the most consistent player, but am getting there. My goal is to be 4.0+ by the time I hit the big 4-0. I honestly believe that I didn't really know how to play tennis before. I mean I played in high school, but how much can you really learn from the Industrial Arts teacher with a bad comb over who picked up a book at the library a week before the season started?

My dad and I were talking the other day and he said, "Kiddo, did you ever think that you are getting too old to play? You are 36 now."

I was shocked. I'm not old. There are mornings I do feel older when I get out of bed and creak after playing singles for two hours the day before, but that's about it. I went on to tell him that we had a party for a woman who plays in our Wednesday mixer a few weeks ago. Doris turned 80 and is going tennis strong. She is an amazing player.

I want to be Doris in 2050, playing in Palm Springs, looking fabulous and shoving the ball down the 65 year old youngster's throats.

I'm with Carey...I thought it was a typo. Guess I need to brush up on my tennis terms. Fill us in, Susan! BTW, way to go. I hope the tennis gig stays with you for many, many years!

Hey guys,

4.0 is a level for tennis. Basically the highest that you can go in a club here is 4.5. I am a 3.5 now. It just is a ranking.

It gives me something to work for. :-)

Six weeks

I am sidelined for at least six weeks. No tennis - no good. My bad wheel turned into immobile wheel today thanks to an air cast. Not the most attractive accessory. I had been trying to continue playing with the plantar fasciitis guess I figured it was going to be around for awhile so might as well deal with it. This plan actually worked out for the best because when I was playing on Thursday there was this loud pop in the bottom of my foot. Suddenly my heel felt better, so I thought, "Maybe it released all of the bad heel juju into the rest of my foot." Well, it was something like that. Evidently I tore a ligament in my foot which the doctor told me is really the best thing that could have happened. The reason why is it cured the plantar fasciitis. Plus the recovery time for the ligament thing is about six weeks versus potentially months or years with the other. So all in all I guess it was a good thing to tear a ligament. I am bummed because I can't do any exercise for t...

Tightrope walking on a string

This has been one of "those" weeks where I often find myself scared to slow down and assess the situation because when I do I start to get this really tight feeling in my chest and I feel nauseous. Does anyone else get that? When life is going mach 10 with your hair on fire...and if you stop you just might fall right over from that string you are balancing everything on... I am going to bed.
