Have you met my friend Jane?

I am a complete Jane Austen junkie, in fact I think that I need to maybe seek help. Shelly tells me I need help and we all know Shel tells it like it is, so it must be true.

"Hello, my name is Susan and I love Jane. Jane Austen."

I read "Pride and Prejudice", annually. Yes, every year I spend a weekend with Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Now that I think about it I may need to skip my little tradition this year because I have so many other never read books piled up and there is a due date looming from the library.

The reason I share this closeted truth with you my friends is because there is a TV event starting this weekend on PBS. It is basically the 10 weeks of Jane, every Sunday night PBS will air a adaptation of Jane Austen's novels.

Here is the schedule.

So, if you have never had the opportunity to get to know Jane, maybe it is time. Think about it, there is no new TV, it's cold out and you can learn new some new sayings for Monday. Nothing will impress people more than dropping a few "pray tells" or telling a co-worker they are "vexing."

Maybe I should read Sense and Sensibility and spend a little time with the Dashwoods this week... something besides reading aloud The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings to two fidgety boys... I have forgotten I like books too.

Thanks for the info! I do love Jane, and pbs happens to be one of our remaining three channels (left the hubby home alone for 40 days, came back to no cable tv), so I can indulge all I want.

Hi.
My name is Nikki.
I've never read a work by Jane Austen.
Can I still be your friend?
(And Sue, why aren't you watching American Gladiator? hee hee).

As fast as I read, I may need to read Jane Austin for dummies. I might be able to read that within a reasonable time. K~

So you know I'm the only woman in the free world without a stupid DVR. And you know I'm getting old. Put two and two together and you'll realize that I did not stay up until ELEVEN O'CLOCK to watch the end of Persuasion. Stupid PBS.

Karen, I don't have a DVR. BUT.... they do still sell Video tapes. Don't ask anyone young in the store where they are. They look at you funny. Try and find someone at least 40 or older, if you need help. I record things the old fashioned way. But then again, you need a VCR. I don't know if they make those for sale anymore. Hmmmmm. K~

That would be great if my VCR weren't dead. We are completely technology-challenged over here.

Pleased as punch

We got our new vacuum cleaner last night. The home office was kind enough to pick one up along with our PF Chang's takeout. Take out Chinese on Valentine's is a tradition. Anyhoo, as you can see from the photo we basically sucked up an entire Pomeranian in our upstairs family room. I don't know if I should be embarrassed or pleased. I mean we just vacuumed on Monday with the Hoover and I knew it wasn't picking up everything, but this is ridiculous. The home office was so impressed with the Animal he went downstairs and vacuumed up another canine in the family room down there. I am still trying to figure out all of the gadgets on the machine. I seriously cannot figure out how to attach the stair cleaner. It is really funky how the thing is put together, efficient, but funky. I also for the life of me cannot figure out the directions. I dislike how all European companies, Dyson (UK), IKEA (Sweden) just show you pictures. I always thought I was a visual person, but I am b...

JG's in love

Remember that song Chuck E.'s in Love? I think it was by Rickie Lee Jones. Well, I have been singing that little tune in my head this afternoon. Evidently JG is smitten in a big way. I guess today at pre-school he went up and declared his undying love to Paige, a very cute blond with a bob. My friend Jeremie was picking up the boys and told me JG went up to Paige and told her he was going to marry her. I don't know what Paige's response was to his proposal, but when the boys were riding home Jeremie asked JG why he liked Paige. JG responded, "Because she is so beautiful."

I am breaking up with...

my hair salon... A girl has a very special relationship with her hair salon. I have been "with" mine for nearly eight years, however have hit the tipping point thanks to a little reality show called "Split Ends". The owner of my salon was a participant on the show and swapped places with a stylist in Goodyear, AZ. After watching her little tirade on YouTube I am done. I am completely shocked, embarrassed, and angry I have handed over my money to this woman. She has always been affected, but this is ridiculous. She rips on the AZ salon for being in a strip mall - news flash - her salon is in a strip mall. Plus I have consistently seen women of all shapes and sizes, wearing all types of clothing throughout the years. Don't get me wrong I LOVE THE WOMAN WHO DOES MY HAIR (who is not this woman on the video) and am completely sad that we have come to this, however I cannot step foot in there again. I think I am going to call tomorrow and tell her what I really thin...
