Oh Puck

I have been trying over the past year to re-gain some of my former piano glory from when I was like 14. I figured I might as well try some of the stuff I used to play since I am home full time and you can only clean the house just so much.

Ambitiously I pulled out a piece from a recital that I played in 1985. It is called Puck by Edvard Grieg. It is really an ugly looking piece with flats all over the place, it is in fact so ugly I cannot for the life of me read it any more and really wonder if I really did play the piece so long ago.

So being the geek I am, I went out to YouTube looking for Puck, or more specifically someone playing Puck. I found someone playing the piece and they play it really well, much better than I ever did. It did jog my memory, however, I am now depressed because the person playing the piece perfectly is like ten years old.

Hang in there!! I have picked up my oboe several times in the past. I was QUITE accomplished!! I starred in state and was recommended for the St. Paul Children's Orchestra!!! Sadly, we could not afford an oboe. So, after highschool my oboe days were over! I picked it back up for the first time in my senior year at SDSU. I could not even put it together!!! I finally got good enough to play in the "slow" band. Kind of deflating. When I was pregnant with my 1st child, 10 years ago. I bought a $125 plastic used oboe just because I was longing to see if I could play. I did. badly. Once C was born, I made the little baby cry. Not so uplifting to my ego, once miss first chair, only chair, soloist, starring in state girl!!! Now that C plays the flute, I have gotten back into playing the oboe. I am bad, slow and so on, but the kids are very impressed with my knowledge and help. D has played the oboe a bit too. It is fun to play with C. So on that Long Long comment. Keep it up. Soon "Puck" will seem easy and dare I say even fun!

We are now working on the star wars theme at our house!

Six weeks

I am sidelined for at least six weeks. No tennis - no good. My bad wheel turned into immobile wheel today thanks to an air cast. Not the most attractive accessory. I had been trying to continue playing with the plantar fasciitis guess I figured it was going to be around for awhile so might as well deal with it. This plan actually worked out for the best because when I was playing on Thursday there was this loud pop in the bottom of my foot. Suddenly my heel felt better, so I thought, "Maybe it released all of the bad heel juju into the rest of my foot." Well, it was something like that. Evidently I tore a ligament in my foot which the doctor told me is really the best thing that could have happened. The reason why is it cured the plantar fasciitis. Plus the recovery time for the ligament thing is about six weeks versus potentially months or years with the other. So all in all I guess it was a good thing to tear a ligament. I am bummed because I can't do any exercise for t...

Tightrope walking on a string

This has been one of "those" weeks where I often find myself scared to slow down and assess the situation because when I do I start to get this really tight feeling in my chest and I feel nauseous. Does anyone else get that? When life is going mach 10 with your hair on fire...and if you stop you just might fall right over from that string you are balancing everything on... I am going to bed.
