Pre-iPod world

The iPod finally went kaput - it became possessed, erased all music and made some really bad noises. I am now awaiting a "refurbished" replacement - translation: someone else's possessed iPod spiffed up for my use. I guess when you buy the service plan at Best Buy it has to implode three times before they give you a new one. Aaarrrggghhh.

This being iPod-less has made work more difficult because I used my music as a little escape from my I/T Alice in Wonderland world since I moved again and am now sitting by the guys who do tech support for the elevators - whole 'nother blog in itself.

So, I have had to go back to my pre-iPod world of CDs until the "new" old one arrives. It has given me a chance to dust off my vast, eclectic CD collection.

It has actually been rather pleasant because I have been reacquainted with old friends that were lost in the 3,974 song abyss that was iPod #1.

Most notably is Mindy Smith - I forgot how much I love her voice. The first summer I was home full-time I heard her song Come to Jesus on NPR, went out got the CD and listened to it
constantly.

Her most beautiful song, One Moment More - she wrote for her mother who she lost - very powerful and healing song. I wanted to put it here, but it is too raw for our little blogging family right now. The video is out on YouTube.

She is perfect for documenting processes - slow - steady - calming. However, after I lost an hour of work today I put on some angry music, then went back to Mindy.

Take a listen you will hear why I love her and her music - here is her cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene - totally reminds me of when I was little, I used to sing this, but had no clue what it was really about. I had to laugh, I didn't realize Dolly made a cameo in the video...

funny, i used to listen to this at MY grandma's house. in fact, my cousin rocky and i would put on a concert and sing this song and delta dawn. we would stand on the picnic table and my brother would be our audience.

delta dawn, what's that flower you have on?

thanks for the walk down memory lane.

so THIS is another thing we all have in common? Jolene is DEFINITELY one of my top 20 favorite songs of all time. not quite a top 10, but real close.

i liked delta dawn too, but not that much :) did you know tanya tucker had a reality show on tv for awhile? she's quite an unusual one ...

Hiatus no more

I don't know what it is about January, but 'round about January 15th I go into a complete and utter funk - hence no blogging. It is as if I need to cocoon for a bit, metamorphosize, and re-enter the world in February. This year has been especially bad due to our chaotic schedules with the kids, plus I have been working almost 60 hours per week as it is budget time and we are determining what exactly does "hunkering down" look like. Don't worry, work is still fun, challenging might be a better word. I truly love my new job, actually it was a promotion - didn't officially know until this week, so that jump starts the old engine as well. Other than that I have also realized in the last week my body is really, really mad at me. Things are just not working as they should and finally made the decision to go see the doctor who helped with the torn ligament a few years ago. Bottom line, just haven't been taking care of myself and he cracked me around a bit so can ...

I am usually an open book...

however have made the decision to have The Schmidt House be invite only, you are the ones that I want to share our lives with - if there is someone that I have omitted by mistake, please let me know. Think that there are some family members that I do not have email addresses for, so will need to track those down. I have found that I have been a little blog "stuck" for the last few months knowing that there were a lot of people who read my site and I became a little self conscious about what I was writing as to not offend anyone - not like I go out of my way to offend, but after awhile you realize that there are some pretty sensitive folks out there. I know it takes all kinds for the world to go around, however I don't want to have to worry about it when I am here. So now I feel a little more free to speak my mind which you all know has never been a problem, but now I feel I am among friends. Thanks for sharing this little adventure with the Schmidts...

So today was one of those days when I was waiting for Dwight Schrute to walk in at any time and make popcorn

Yesterday was pretty blah at work considering everyone just got back from the holiday, there were the usual conversations, "So how was your Christmas?" blah, blah, blah. If yesterday was blah, then today was just odd. At one point I felt that I had entered an alternate universe and we had become Dunder Mifflin . You see, Thursday is popcorn day on the Garden Level. I guess the popcorn is there to help boost morale and raise a little ching for various charities. However, since today really felt like Tuesday, not Thursday, people just weren't in the mood for popcorn and the world went a little askew. It all started when someone complained that the popcorn smell was bothering them. I don't know why this day was different than any other Thursday, but today it bothered them. Maybe they were on the holiday hangover edge and it just tipped. So management was on the prowl for a new home for the popcorn machine. That is when I was approached and asked if it would be ok if t...
